Central Street Project, Somerville

Central Street in Somerville is home to a row of brightly colored historical townhouses, each rich in character and charm. Our work on this project began in 2022, starting with the replacement of windows for one unit owner with historically appropriate Pella cottage-style windows. Over the next two years, we expanded our efforts, making improvements across multiple homes.

Preserving History Through Thoughtful Renovations

We collaborated closely with both our clients and the Somerville Historic Commission to ensure every update was completed with care, maintaining the integrity of these historic homes while meeting all preservation guidelines.

Project Highlights

Window Replacements – Installed historically accurate windows in two units.

  • Exterior Painting – Refreshed the exteriors of three townhouses with period-appropriate colors.
  • Trim Restoration – Replaced worn trim on two homes with cedar to match the original architectural details.
  • Deck Replacement – Upgraded a deck for one unit, ensuring durability and historical consistency.

The Master Bathroom Transformation

  • To complete the project, we designed and built a stunning master bathroom that perfectly blends modern elegance with historical charm. Featuring on-trend gold hardware, green brick-stack tile, sophisticated sconces, and classic wainscot paneling, the space balances contemporary style with timeless details. A unique touch? We custom-built the linen stack to include a dedicated slot for the homeowner’s litterbox—a small but thoughtful detail that enhances functionality.

This multi-year project was a rewarding journey in preserving history while creating beautiful, livable spaces for our clients.
